Preparation for prayer: Take Time to be Holy Hymn #395 United Methodist Hymnal

Scripture reading:Live holy lives before me because I, God, am holy. I have distinguished you from the nations to be my very own. Leviticus 20:26 NIV

The word holy means ‘set apart for sacred use.’ Few of us think about generosity when we think about holiness. But, God asks us to be holy and distinguish ourselves from the world. We are to be God’s very own. We reflect God’s amazing generosity toward us when we are generous to others. The benefits of practicing holiness are limitless. We are immediately strengthened by the Holy Spirit’s presence. Generosity becomes part of our lifestyle as we are open to receive blessings God has prepared for us. We simply can’t help ourselves. We want to be generous. It just pours out of us. Take time to be holy.

As you pray: consider how you receive God’s generous gifts. Are you a gracious receiver? Can you accept a compliment? Can you accept grace? Salvation is a free gift-one we cannot earn. Maybe it’s time you dedicate your quest for holiness. You may find an interesting connection between holiness and generosity. Imagine how Wheatland can communicate holiness and generosity. Ask God to direct our finances in a holy way-pleasing to Him.
