Preparation for Prayer: There’s Something About That Name Hymn #171 United Methodist hymnal.

Jesus is our savior. Saving us is Jesus’ job description. We cannot save anyone-not even ourselves. This is why the name of Jesus is above every name. Whatever challenge, circumstance or crisis we may have--we can call on the name of Jesus.

Lord, Jesus, you are a mighty savior, there is no other like you. Evil is all around me. My adversary speaks loudly into my thoughts. I need you more than I know. Your guidance and direction strengthen me in times of temptation and trial. You are my shield. You are my refuge. I run to you and you save me. Even though I may face obstacles and my situation can seem hopeless--you are still God. I trust in all your ways. Amen.

Scripture: So at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth, and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:10-11 NRSV

Jesus Christ is our savior. He faced unimaginable circumstances. He faced death-the final opponent--and won! Jesus is all powerful over sin and death. Sometimes we need a fresh revelation of what this really means. Life and relationships can envelop us and hide us from God. We can become engrossed in tiny details or true but useless information. Focus your attention on the names of God: El Elyon:the Most High God, El Shaddai:God Almighty, Elohim:Immortal, Invisible God, Jehovah-Jireh:the LORD will Provide, Jehovah-Rophe:the LORD Heals, Jehovah-Nissi:the LORD is my Banner. The names are important but will mean nothing unless you know him. This LORD saved us from our sins and lostness. Do you truly understand all that God has done for you?

As you pray: dedicate or rededicate your life to Christ. Acknowledge Jesus Christ as your life-leader. Surrender to his grace and accept the assurance of your salvation. There are many in need of this knowledge. The church becomes the intersection where lost and sinful people find Jesus Christ. He is the answer. Wheatland can become this intersection for us and many. Pray we are prepared to respond to the needs of those searching for Jesus.
