Gift Mart - December 13th

Members of the Wheatland community are giving local kids something to smile about this holiday season. On Saturday, December 13, Wheatland Salem Church will partner with 6 local schools and many area businesses to provide Gift Mart at two locations. The idea is to bring joy and hope to under-resourced preschool and elementary children in our area through the means of toys at Gift Mart.

Gift Mart is an innovative program that provides qualified families with a “hand up” during the holiday season. Qualifying parents and guardians are given the dignity to purchase each of the toys they select in the Gift Mart for only $2.00 per toy. 100% of the proceeds made from the sale of each toy will be donated back to each participating school for their children’s programming.

We have a goal of collecting 2700 toys in order to serve 900 children with the assistance of 400 volunteers from the community and the church. It’s a lofty goal, but for a church whose mission is to "love God, love others, change the World," the intrinsic rewards are worth the effort.

If you are interested in supporting this dynamic holiday program, you can participate in the following ways:

Click here or on the blue links to donate or volunteer

  • Donate a new, unwrapped toy valued between $15-$20. (no stuffed animals please) Click here for drop-off sites
  • Host a Toy Collection Box in your store, organization or neighborhood.
  • Host a Christmas Party with a Purpose. Ask guests at a home or work party to donate a toy roll of wrapping paper, tape, etc.
  • Volunteer yourself, your family, or your friends to work December 13 (or December 12 for set-up)
  • Donate unused Christmas gift wrap or tape.

Throughout the day, volunteers receive a gift of a different kind. Their hearts are filled with the spirit of Christmas by being touched with all the smiles and joy-filled comments they hear all morning:

I can’t believe we won a tree, we have never had a Christmas tree. This is the only thing my son asked for this year. I just can’t stop from crying. These are tears of joy.”

“Oh my gosh, this is the toy my daughter asked for and I knew I could never afford it. Now, I can buy it for $2 and the money goes back to her school, too.”

“We are thrilled that the school can do extra programming from the money collected from Gift Mart.”

“My children did not want to leave the Children’s area because they were having so much fun.”

“This Gift Mart brought us happiness in a time of hardship this year. Thank you for caring.”
