Alpha Course

Alpha | Wednesdays March 15 - May 24 | 6:30 - 9:00 p.m. | Oswego Campus | Fellowship Hall

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from? Where am I going?

Who is Alpha for?

  • People interested in investigating Christianity
  • Christians who want a refresher course on the “basics”
  • New believers
  • Parents trying to stay ahead of their kids
  • Couples preparing for marriage
  • Newcomers to the church
  • People returning to Christ after being on “hiatus”

What happens at Alpha?

Each week there is a delicious meal and a talk on topics such as:

  • Who is Jesus?
  • Why did Jesus die?
  • Why and how should I read the Bible?
  • Why and how do I pray?
  • What about the Holy Spirit?
  • How can I overcome evil?
  • Why and how should I tell others?
  • Does God heal today?

led by Sam Figola | email | 630.888.6827

A meal and childcare are provided.

Good Friday PHASE worship

April 14 | 3 p.m. | Naperville campus

One of our values at Wheatland is the Next Generation. Our goal is  to find ways for our next generation to participate in all areas of worship, including worship on Good Friday.

Just like our weekly PHASE service, The Good Friday service provides the same opportunity for families to experience their faith together and offer's some of the same elements as the 7 p.m. service. Worship offer's that opportunity by challenging the adults in their faith, while keeping the attention of their kids.

Oswego Tower Re-Dedication

It's time to celebrate!  After months of construction, insurance claims, and calls about the cross not being lit, we are finally ready to re-dedicate the Oswego Tower and re-light the cross.

Join us at our Oswego Campus on Sunday, February 26th for a night of celebration.  We'll gather at 6:30 pm in Fellowship Hall for desserts and beverages.  At 7:00 pm, we'll move upstairs to the sanctuary for a brief service of re-dedication where we'll sing songs, read Scripture, and pray that strong tower and cross will be a reminder of the faithfulness of God and a beacon of hope for the Oswego community for years to come.  We'll conclude the evening by gathering outside to officially re-light the cross for the first time in nearly a year and a half!

If you have any questions please contact Pastor Derek Rogers.

Mental Health First Aid Training

Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses, builds understanding of their impact, and overviews common supports.

This 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.  The program also teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific types of illnesses, like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia.

COURSE DETAILS:

Mental Health First Aid teaches participants a five-step action plan, ALGEE, to support someone developing signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in an emotional crisis:

  • A ssess for risk of suicide or harm
  • L isten nonjudgmentally
  • G ive reassurance and information
  • E ncourage appropriate professional help
  • E ncourage self-help and other support strategies

Like CPR, Mental Health First Aid prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help.  First Aiders do not take on the role of professionals - they do not diagnose or provide any counseling or therapy.  Instead, the program offers concrete tools and answers key questions, like "what do I do?" and "where can someone find help?"  Certified Mental Health First Aid instructors provide a list of community healthcare providers and national resources, support groups, and online tools for mental health and addictions treatment and support.  All trainees receive a program manual to compliment the course material.

Please bring a sack lunch.  There are also several restaurants in the area.  You will have a one hour break.

Saturday, January 21, 2017 | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (lunch break 12:00 -1:00 p.m.) | Naperville Campus Room 146 | $40 fee which includes the book

What should I expect?

Phase will combine various elements including, contemporary worship music, weekly skits, and teachings from many of our leaders here at Wheatland!
