We’ve all been through a long season of change. If there is one thing we all can agree on, it’s that life isn’t always simple and the many obstacles we face make it easy us for to lose our spiritual focus. As cliché as it sounds, “it’s always something.” We can do better. We can learn how to accept that change is part of a normal life and pray for God’s guidance. Prayer is the best way to cope life’s challenges and stay on God’s path He has for you.
God has a way to work things out that you may not have thought about. Think about Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Truthfully, He also has a way to work things out that didn’t go according to His purpose. Trust Him: Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. Psalm 37:5
You may not know what will come next in your life but we do know our Heavenly Father will never let us down. He will never leave us nor forsake us. Hebrews 13:5
Prayer Focus during our Season of Pastoral Transition
We ask you to make our pastoral change a significant priority in your personal prayer time. Transitions can be challenging and we want to honor God with every decision, every spoken word, every meeting, every day and in every way. Pray now for Pastor Jen as she and Bill prepare to relocate. Pray now for Pastor Zaki as he leaves one congregation to come here to Wheatland to serve. Pray now for all the decisions that have to be made, for the churches to accept the changes and for the communities to embrace the new change. Pray now that the Holy Spirit works in the lives of all involved and we honor Jesus Christ thoroughly in all we do.
Suggested Prayers:
Each of these prayers asks God for help to guide us through the challenges of the transition and reassure us that the light at the end of the tunnel will guide us into the next chapter of our lives.
Prayer for a New Season
God of Love,
You are with us in every transition and change.
As we enter into this new season with excitement and even some anxiety,
we recall your deep compassion, presence, and abounding love.
We thank you for the gifts, talents and skills with which you have blessed us.
We thank you for the experiences that have brought us to this moment.
We thank you for the work of others that gives purpose and meaning to our own work.
Be with us as we move forward, rejoicing with you and supporting each other.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ,
Amen.
Prayer for Vision
O God,
You know us better than we know ourselves. Guide us throughout our time of transition. Empower each one of us to use our unique gifts and talents to create a beautiful life, to share openly and honestly our thoughts, to respect the opinions of others, and to encourage humility, patience and joy. Instill in us a vision of the life you intended for us to lead. Guided by your Holy Spirit, we will be united in love and joyfully accomplish this mission, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer As We Begin Again
Holy Father, you are a creative God. Your Word reveals your creativity from Genesis to Revelation. Help us to accept and to prepare for new beginnings. Inspire us to move forward even if we don’t really know the way. Help us remember that every beginning has its ending, and every ending has a new beginning. Holy Spirit, please help us keep our faith secure and remind us to ask, seek and knock—and the door will be opened. Amen.
Prayer for When Things Go Wrong
Abba,
Today was one of those days--You know this already. Life just doesn’t make sense. The world seems so unfair…because it is unfair. We need You Lord. I need you. I need you to wrap your arms around me and help me understand that it’s a good thing I don’t always understand everything or know all the answers. I want to honor you but I also want to control things that are not within my ability to control. I need to let go and let you be God. I am human and I cannot possibly comprehend Your plan of the entire world. You are God. And I am not. You spoke the world into existence. You shaped humans from dust. And only you can create beauty from ashes. Help me to accept the truth.
Amen.
A Prayer from Philippians
“Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God's peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 6-7
