It's been an impactful Faith Promise season. Sunday we respond to a call from God to return a monetary blessing we will receive in order that his vision might come to completion. Like most mission-minded churches, our vision for missions at Wheatland is rooted in Jesus' commission from the gospel of Matthew:

Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: “God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I’ll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age.”                              Matthew 28:18-20 The Message.

One of the trademarks of an exemplary leader is clear vision and a promise to stay with it until it's completion. Some leaders can cast a compelling vision. Other leaders may assist a team as they struggle through the intermediate demands of working toward a vision. There are leaders who come alongside the team as they take the last steps of vision fulfillment. I think it's rare that one person does all three in an exemplary way.

Jesus casts a vision: go out to train and instruct others in the practice of all he's commanded. Then, Jesus made a promise to be with us. What does it mean that he is with us? The English word 'with' can be translated into the Greek word 'meta' which means behind, with or after. Jesus teaches us he is with us but he demonstrates with-ness. Jesus' leadership style reveals a specific expectation of how we are to live partnering locally and globally.

By supporting Faith Promise, we can be with missionaries who lead struggling Christians worshipping in secret. We can be with other missionaries who provide a safe home for infant girls in China or translate the Bible into local languages. We can support people who demonstrate with-ness in Africa, Asia, Central America, Europe, and in North and South America. How might Jesus be calling you to demonstrate with-ness in your neighborhood, at your work place or reaching out to your community? Join us this weekend at both locations as we celebrate what God can do through us. We can change the world because we have an exemplary leader. All he asks is that we follow him.
