God looks for men and women who live and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with passion, sensitivity and authenticity.
Jesus gathered his closest followers for one last time. He delivered one of his most impactful messages which explained his purpose and gave the disciples clear, specific and final instructions. The last encounter between Jesus and his chosen followers has become known as 'The Great Commission.'
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20 NIV
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts include different accounts of Jesus' final event. Immediately before his ascension, Jesus commissions his disciples to go and preach the good news, make disciples of all nations and be his witnesses. Sharing the story of Jesus with others is the top priority for every Christian even if we don't understand everything there is to know about Jesus. The truth is we don't have to comprehend and understand everything about him but our mandate is clear. Our responsibility is to communicate what we know with those yet to hear.
The telling of the story is our responsibility but the power of the conviction and conversion belongs to God.
The essence of becoming a devoted, connected, generous follower of Christ is knowing Jesus Christ as a person. Nothing communicates the power of the Gospel truth like a transformed life. You can make a huge impact in the lives of others by simply telling your own personal story. The telling of the story is our responsibility but the power of the conviction and conversion belongs to God. Here is a template for you to use when assembling your story.
- Life without Christ: give a brief description of your life before knowing Christ.
- How you became a Christian: share what prompted you to seek Christ and how you encounter him.
- Life with Christ: explain how your life is different today from your past life.
- Invitation to Accept Christ: Invite the person to become a follower of Jesus Christ.
Life is the essence of all things. Our life originates with God and culminates in God. Eternal life is significant both to the here and now, as well as, the afterlife. God chooses to work through our human blunders for his purposes. Our weakness, frailty and limitations become powerful tools in his hands. The overwhelming needs of the world pale in comparison to the need of the human heart to be reconciled to God in Christ. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to awaken your soul to the people around you searching for a savior. They are lost and will not come to know the freedom and power God gives without you.
A passionate prayer for those without Christ
God, I want your passion for life to become my passion. I want to live your kind of life. Empower me to live life abundantly. Help me to live my life with enthusiasm and grace that I might be able to share with others what you have already accomplished and what you promise for us in days to come. I want to share my story with cultural relevance, sensitivity and power, so that I impact the people and the world around me. Amen.
